History Has Its Eyes on Us

So I’ve (belatedly) become obsessed with Hamilton. I love musicals, but somehow could never make it past the first couple of songs. Then I found myself in a rental car with Caleb in central Florida, with a long drive ahead of us. For some reason, the audio system in the rental car kept selecting Hamilton from my list of purchased albums. We decided to go with it, and spent 3 hours driving across Florida. Caleb filled me in on the story behind each song, and I was hooked.

Once I’d processed the very dense lyrical landscape enough to understand it, I became curious about the history behind it (I think I slept through all my US History classes in high school). I just finished listening to David McCullough’s 1776, and am considering starting on Ron Chernow’s Alexander Hamilton. It has been so much fun to listen to these two records of the American Revolution in tandem (though David and Caleb may have had enough of this particular phase).
